Medical license to practice in the state of Illinois

In order to practice medicine in the state of Illinois, you must obtain a medical license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). The licensure fee for a Physician and Surgeon is $500. Additional fees may apply for exams, the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS), ECFMG certification reports, and other verifications. The licensure process requires completion of a 6-year post-secondary study, including 4 years of medical education and 2 years in a college or university. A minimum of 24 months of postgraduate training in the U.S. or Canada is required if the training started on or after January 1, 1988.
